18ct Yellow Gold Antique Ruby & Diamond Ring c.Early 1900s
A magnificent and richly coloured antique 18ct yellow gold ruby and diamond ring dating to the early 1900s. Three generously proportioned oval-cut natural rubies of deep, vivid red are set in a continuous row, each claw-set and separated by distinctive X-shaped gold dividers, each corner of which is set with a small old cut diamond — four diamonds in total adding brilliant white sparkle between the rubies. The deep, saturated red of the rubies is exceptional, displaying the rich crimson hue that makes natural rubies among the most coveted of all coloured gemstones.
The pierced and scrolled gallery beneath the stones is beautifully crafted throughout, adding wonderful decorative depth and lightness to the mount — the mark of a skilled Edwardian goldsmith working at the height of their craft. Fully hallmarked with a date letter consistent with the early 1900s.
