18ct Yellow Gold Antique Sapphire & Diamond Ring c.1863
A breathtaking and exceptionally rare antique 18ct yellow gold sapphire and diamond ring, fully hallmarked and dating to approximately 1863 — making this a remarkable piece of early Victorian jewellery over 160 years old. Three graduating sapphires of soft cornflower blue are set in a continuous row, the largest oval-cut stone at the centre flanked by two smaller round sapphires, with a star-cut old mine cut diamond gypsy-set into the gold between each stone, adding brilliant white sparkle against the blue.
The substantial domed band features a beautifully pierced and scalloped open-work gallery beneath the stones — an exquisite decorative detail that demonstrates the extraordinary skill of mid-Victorian goldsmithing at its finest. The rich warm yellow gold throughout glows magnificently, the combination of deep blue sapphires and sparkling diamonds creating a composition of timeless beauty and historical significance. Fully hallmarked with a date letter consistent with 1863.
